‘SA Radio Live’ launched at 7am on Monday 30th September 2024, the same date Wales' first local commercial radio station Swansea Sound started in September 1974.

Sadly, the latter ceased broadcasting in 2020 and a petition signed by almost 4000 listeners failed to prevent a rebrand and becoming part of a UK commercial radio network. Also in 2024 after 29 years, its sister station The Wave stopped broadcasting ending truly local radio in Swansea. 

To commemorate what would have been 50 years of local radio in the city, the team behind Swansea Sound launched SA Radio Live. The station broadcasts live and local programmes from studios in Tircoed Village, the home of the former community station,  Radio Tircoed.

"We know that Swansea is unique, the people are special and we are proud of our incredible heritage. We have given back to the city a truly local station with live and interactive programmes from studios based right here in the community. Put simply, we are from Swansea, for Swansea.”

SA Radio Live features a broad mix of classic hit music from all decades with current songs from established stars and a local playlist boasting Swansea’s finest musical talent.  It's the only station showcasing the city’s best new music, especially during a weekly 3 hour programme devoted to artists from the area.

The station includes a number of much loved Swansea Sound and Wave presenters: Shaun Tilley, Steve Dewitt, Rob Pendry,  Plastic Sam, Chris ‘Smithy’ Smith, Griff Harries, and James Lewis. Former Radio Tircoed presenters also host shows including a Welsh language programme, specialist music and a more eclectic mix of quality tracks at night. SA Radio Live is committed to broadcasting local what’s on information and supporting local charities.

The station can be heard across Swansea, online at saradiolive.co.uk, on its own app, smart speaker and on 106.5 FM in the North and East of the city.
